It is nice, but in some cases, there are new, better paths. For wood elf smithing, I foung cultural to be a much better path in terms of less farming and a nice skill up rate, vs. the proposed Shadowscream.

Here's what I did to get tailoring from 200-270

200-222: Expert's symbols (I checked the merchants in RM daily, always remember to leave 1 lambent stone on the merchant!)

222-231: Barbed Stock whips (Ibought any hynid manes I found in bazaar for a reasonable price and farmed MQ wold and cat pelts in EK)

231-252: Epicthieks/Small Epicthiek's Power belts (Pricey but every corathus entrail you farm give a potential 2 skillup chances)

252-262: Othmir Fur caps

262-268: Othmir boots

268-270: Random stuff so far, like a discordant seal and some prepared sporali skin

Some races have it much easier when it comes to the DoN cultural. I would have to farm nightmare arachnid silk for master's arms to get me to 290. Not that the spiders in PoN are hard to kill, but still would be very time consuming.

Tailoring, smithing, or tinkering - if you can farm the cultural stuff, (not too rare) DO IT!

There is a bonus of ~10% chance to skillup for masters and ~20% for GM armor. The normal chance is about 4% at 275 so this more than triples your chances on masters. Do masters wrists then sleeves to 290 and legs/chest to 300.

If you cant easily farm masters stuff, well you're screwed atm, but they are supposed to be planning a drop rate increase on many items or change the item needed soon. Probably for the expansion. If your cultural uses shissar scales, sounds like they plan to lower the drop rate, better farm it now.

As bad as the shissar scale rate is, the rate for most of the other components is worse. (Or at least was, I heard a rumor that some of the drop rate changes are already in.) The rate for nightmare arachnid silk (the master's component for erudites, gnomes, a few others) is now in the same neighborhood as it sounds like the scales are, considering you need 2x as many silks as scales.

For tailoring I definitely recommend the LDoN cultural robes if your race has this option, ESPECIALLY if you have leftover ribbons from earlier stages. I collected my race's ribbon drops for about 3-6 months, buying dyes/components in bazaar each day, then went 162-182 on ribbons, then GoD whips and other misc GoD recipes (hynid threads, etc.) to about 210, then robes all the way to 250 using the ribbons I produced earlier. I still have a lot of the platinum ribbons left over, and the platinum-ribbon robes are very good tribute (2-8k each depending on race, used to be even more), so I grab words of capacity and obliteration (top 2 human ribbon components) whenever I see them and turn them into cheap tribute.

I have pretty much ignored tradeskills since DoN came out (just above 250 in all), but may start working the easier ones (baking/brewing/etc.) up if I get bored one of these days.
