One of the key factors for all raiders is to make sure to change your account information when the system comes back.
Create strong password - mixing some Captial letters with numbers, and where allowed special characters such as # or $, and never use any part of your name or birthday for passwords.

From this article:
http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9216343/Sony_cuts_off_Sony_Online_Entertainment_service_after_hack"The entertainment network is separate from the PlayStation Network but both hacks have similar traits, said Mai Hora, a spokeswoman for Sony Computer Entertainment in Tokyo.
In both cases, the stolen data includes customer names, e-mail addresses and hashed versions of their account passwords. That data could be used to spam customers or trick them with phishing e-mails."
When servers go back up, do not forget to change your game account passwords and maybe credit card information and alert your bank in regards to possible stolen credit card information. Some banks will issues you a replacement credit card as no cost to you.

One fix they could do is offer more game cards at the price of credit card subscription. I rather not use my Credit cards with SOE. Unfortunately, Best Buy and other places don't keep them stocked very well. What sucks is having the same PW for 7 years and having to rename it. I would caution anyone using their services when they do bring the game back. It has been 14 days since I requested a Character transfer and this was before the hackings. They are quick to take your money, but on the slow to do anything.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2011-0 ... -risk.htmlfrom the article:
"Sony said it expected online services to be fully restored by the end of May, with partial restoration occurring in phases around the world beginning this week. Customers may get complimentary downloads and 30 days of free premium services, Sony said."

i have no idea what SOE does outside of everquest and have never much cared until today. from what others have said it sounds like everquest was on of the last to come down so maybe that means it will be the first to go back up ? i was hoping we'd only be down a day or two but after this article id be happy to be up by the weekend. if everquest loses a month it will lose a lot of players and there will be another set of server merges soon. maybe the doomsday preachers got it all wrong and all that may 21 business was really about everquest

Wonder what will be restored by end-of week? Man I've got a itchy kill Cellar feeling going on bad atm! If anyone sees or hears of what will be restored when - let me know, I'm about to put us on spring break and cancel a few days of raiding so people can work on family/spouse/other half factioning so we can return and all gather for the dying part of raiding together!

Gah, my final exam is tonight, been studying like mad for the past week and a half (I hate C++ by the way!) and just when I think I can see the light -- our precious EQ is down. NOOOOOO..... the unfairness of it all!

They tweeted around 1:30pm:
We're working as hard as we can to get the servers up as soon as possible, but have no ETA at this time.
As a funny sidenote, i saw a post saying their subscription was up for renewal yesterday (5/2) and they DID get billed.

I received email today about my cards or accounts may have been compromised. I called my banks and let them know. Thankfully I only use 2 cards the last few years with EQ. Some may know I sometimes box 5, particularly while fabled was live. This means a lot of headaches in changing passwords on all my accounts. Not only do you have to worry about charges, changing PW, players have to dig out old CDs for CD codes and stuff long forgotten. After all this, I think I'm just going to keep the ranger active since that is my main.
Cheers!

This happened to me on two accounts yesterday. I wasn't able to login to cancel those accounts. At least they will get 30 more days free play time.
