EQ DNS Renewal Issue - No One Can Login

Apparently SOE forgot to RENEW it's DNS (Are they serious??).

It is slowly being corrected they say, but as of right now I cannot connect:
"A connection to the server could not be reached"

Also as of right now (34 minutes ago as of this post), from Everquest's official Facebook page:
"The login issues reported this morning have begun to be resolved. However, some players may be unable to connect to SOE services intermittently for up to 48 hours, including websites, forums, and games. We apologize for the inconvenience. [Dexella]"

Not sure what effect this will have on tonight, but when they say "for up to 48 hours" .... /Le Sigh

My DNS updated finally after several successful DNS cache flushes

at a command prompt:
ipconfig /flushDNS

Took over an hour but the proper address finally reached me on the east coast of Canada

Put this into your HOSTS file in your "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\" directory. This will allow you to bypass waiting for DNS servers to propagate the correct information.

Your ISP may have its own saved cache of DNS and thats why you aren't winning with the ipconfig /flushDNS command. It's due to the ISP probably holding their cache of your files for 72 hours. I am not sure the best way to resolve this other than restarting / rebooting said router (may not even fix it). Best of luck to you, and I will see what happens when I get home

Neither flushing DNS nor editing the hosts file seems to work for me, so far. And I was SO looking forward to tradeskilling some more before raids tonight... (that was a joke. I hate tradeskilling). Hopefully it'll have cleared up before raid time.

1 ipconfig /flushdns will take all your cache and clear it. Doing this more than once is only going to clear any stored DNS from after the last flush. Just trying to save you hassle from typing it 30 more times lol

Some routers actually let you flush the DNS on the router side as well. You can ENVOKE the router and log in, and look at the troubleshooting tab if you are able to. May also be under the DNS settings depending on the router. Again, not sure if this will clear your ISPs cache but it certainly seems that's your problem (ISP's DNS Cache not clearing) if you changed the correct paths in the windows32 folder

I just got home, and as I had thought, EQ opened by simply double clicking the icon on desktop. Because I didn't attempt to load it while the websites were down im guessing. Since they didn't change IPs no reason to clear cache unless you loaded game while it was down. Loaded in no problem just now.

Got mine working, finally. Here's what did the trick, if anyone else wants to try it:

1) Go to control panel -> network and internet (or... something like that, my Windows isn't in English so guessing at the exact translation)
2) Click on your active internet connection and then go to the properties for that connection
3) Select TCP/IPv4 from the list (make sure you do not accidentally remove the checkmark while doing so), then go to properties for that
4) In the bottom half of the new properties window, there's a bunch of options regarding DNS. Switch your selection from "automatically retrieve a DNS server address" (or something like that... again, non-English Windows here) to "use the following DNS server address"
5) Input the following into the two fields below said option: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
6) Close all web browsers etc., and do start -> run -> ipconfig /flushdns as has been previously described in this thread

What this does is force you to use Google DNS instead of whatever DNS your ISP provides, then flushes the cache so you get rid of the non-working info you currently have. I have tested both that and OpenDNS, and of those two, Google DNS currently works and OpenDNS does not (nor does my ISP's own DNS).

If, in a few days when everything has propagated down through all DNS servers, you want to go back to using your own ISP's DNS again, follow the above instructions from step 1-3, then just reverse step 4 by setting it back to automatically retrieving a DNS server address.
