I know I typcially don't leave on short notice, most of my trips you guys are aware of with very long lead times for the most part. That changed last week with a late night phone at the end of the week, saying I need you here in CA on Monday (and I live on the east coast). I was asked to be here initially for 1 week, now 3. I will be flying back and forth each week for the next 3 commuting.
I will be at Raids Saturday - lord I'm having withdrawal issues!
As to the week night raids for the next 2 - my status is going to be iffy - due to one main reason - time zone change. I copied EQ to an external hard drive and it works with my work laptop without me putting anything on my corporate machine, I just run it from the external(not tried it with raids yet - lag might get me). If I was going to be here anything longer then a few weeks, I'd be looking for a gaming laptop (thanks for the info Piao on some recent ones). But until I settle in and learn what is what and who is who on the project team here - to smack down those scheduling 6 to 8pm review meetings (yes PST, so that's during prime raid time) my presense at raids for the next 2 weeks - well is just iffy.
Jaerlyn is still here to kill you in new and harder content. For the nights he has conflicts (which appears to be Thursdays going forward), Antibane, Luthair, & Cellar can lead you to your death. I will be on during week if I can get out of work by 4 PST !!! (seriously not sure that will happen for the next few, I even have a meeting tonight at 6 to 8 pst ... ON A FRIDAY).
I also found out I have Donglad's hotel disease.. my chat channels drop about every 5 minutes, so not sure how to counter that, will try next week to see if I can "purchase" a better connection.. or start shopping around for hotels with better connection speeds.
This project could turn into a long term (not months but years) support role for me, with me doing most of that work from my home office, with maybe 1 week a month or every other month back out here. I need to make the most of this opportunity in a time where people are struggling for jobs as I do not want to lose mine either.
I've traveled before and was fine with raids and such - but until I learn the ropes and start esablishing a work time frame (like going in at 6 so I can leave by 3:30), I'm have to be into the office based on others that I'm dependent on for information (and they like work from noon to 9!)
So to make a long story short yes you will be raiding - Jaerlyn's finals are over but he will not a be avaialble on Thursdays. Antibane is willing to lead thursdays for the next several while I'm out of town with backup support from Luthair, Cellar, Talsheyar and Jeldar.
Based on everyones reaction to Agrath last night - I guess I'll take it off the schedule for primary raids.
I miss you all - just you will not see much of me for the next two weeks at raids until I get through this wave of on-boarding and learning the logistics and setup of this new project.

Good luck, X. I know what it's like to play EQ on a work laptop and external HD. I was stuck in the middle of nowhere (quite literally) with a fibre optic connection. But the connection was split up so 50 people were using it on each wireless router... totalling 1200 users. Quite slow!
A couple pointers that helped me along the way. Make sure your laptop AND ex-HD are sufficiently cooled - work computers (at least mine) can't handle EQ for a long while. I played with mine sitting on books so lots of air got underneath. Next, nix eveything you don't need in EQ. Particle effects, textures, etc. Next, nix everything you do need - mainly the clip plane. Ctrl and - = I think are the shortcuts to decrease and increase the clip planes. I had mine set to 0, which wouldn't let me see across the garbage pit in RT. Finally, a good indicator of how your connection is doing is the Universal Chat. Or in other words, your Friends list and any channels (ashorty, general, etc.). If you're on a slower connection, these will crap out. You'll get a message along the terms of "the universal chat has been disconnected. You will be informed when it is up and running again." Normal channels (/say, /g, /gu, /rs, /ooc, etc.) still work though.
